The Travelled Drummer

Ian started playing drums at the age of 9, in Africa. He played drums throughout his school years in cadet bands. After leaving school, Ian was lead drummer and drum instructor for the Drum Corp. in the army.

Leaving the army, Ian then studied drum-set, congas and percussion instruments including piano. During this time he played on radio shows and did several musical shows. He also did some tours in South Africa with The Van Stadden Quintet, Ex Nico Carstens Band.

Deciding to spread his wings, Ian went to England; auditioned at the Grosvenor House Hotel London with the Sidney Lipton Orchestra, which secured him two world cruises. After returning to London he played in clubs for a year and then came to Australia.

Ian has taught percussion and drum-set at various music schools since arriving in Australia, also forming his own music ensembles over the years. "Bossa Four" & "Q.E.D." to name two that were musically & financially a pleasure!
